PROTECT PATTICHIO FOREST PARK.
Did you know that?
> The Larnaca Municipality agreed to construct a restaurant, a skate park, training courts, children's playgrounds, a dog park, parking lots within Pattihio Forest Park in Alykes Larnacas.
> They did so without a public consultation, violating the principles of the Aachen Convention that promote public participation in decision-making processes relating to the environment.
What's wrong with that?
> Pattihio Forest park is part of the Natura 2000 network covering Alykes Larnacas, and as such should be protected by strict Environmental laws.
> The Cyprus Department of Environment together local authorities have effectively bypassed EU Regulation, giving the green light to construction.
> Combined with existing and future environmental stressors, the park and Salt Lakes are slowly but surely under threat from human activities.
Now what?
> The Municipality has not been responding to our letters requesting for further clarification.
> This has raised serious concerns both from the public and professional bodies about the legitimacy of this project.
> A portion of the forest is being converted into a parking lot and a restaurant.
